“I am so over this weather”.
“I am so ready for warmer weather”.
“I am so excited for spring weather”.
“I am looking forward to summer”.
Does this sound familiar? Is this how you have been feeling lately? ME TOO! Now I get it, warmer weather isn’t for everyone but I LOVE it! Dump the layers, get outside, get a little sun, enjoy nature. Sounds amazing and definitely what this Mama needs! Not to mention, I think 90% of everyone I talk to is on the same page LOL! You know what else Summer brings?
No more hiding under those leggings and baggy sweaters. No more layers and you KNOW that your kids will be begging you to go swimming with them VERY SOON! So we’ll be pulling out our white legs and I will be hoping my annual winter gain is off before I squeeze into the bathing suit! You know what else I find myself always saying and hearing from others?
“I’m so busy”!
“I can’t add anything else to my schedule”!
“I have no time”!
“I am too tired”!
Is this you too? Yep, we are all there, life is busy and crazy and the idea of adding more to your schedule so that is overwhelming but, we all want to feel a little more ready for summer right!? I compiled my favorite tips that will fit seamlessly into your busy schedule and help you feel a little bit better about swimsuit and short weather!
UP YOUR WATER INTAKE
I know, I know. You hear this all the time and I say this ALL THE TIME! Let me tell you in short why water is so important aside from the fact that your body is roughly 60% water. Drinking water maintains our body’s and cell’s fluid balance and helps them to perform more efficiently. This includes body temperature, food digestion, kidney function, muscle function, brain function and pain prevention. Proper hydration also aides in energy levels (skip that second cup of coffee, try water), clear skin (flush those nasty toxins), and calorie control (it will help you to feel full and prevent needless snacking). Water is a cure-all in our house, It’s FREE and WORKS!
HAVE A SALAD A DAY
Studies have shown that having a salad a day can significantly reduce your daily caloric intake. If you have ever counted calories, I’m sure you have seen the numbers. Your body will also love the nutrients and fiber! When building your salad, use dark leafy greens, dense vegetables and fruits (peppers, berries, broccoli, tomatoes, cabbage), good fats (seeds, avocado, almonds) and a lean protein (eggs, chicken, quinoa). Oh and skip the dressing or keep it minimal, I use salsa as an alternative a lot. I ordered a salad the other day that was 260 calories and I just knew I would be starving within the hour. I wasn’t, I even made it to dinner! Keep in mind that a salad for lunch does not give you the excuse to binge at dinner! Yep, guilty!
WALK A MILE A DAY (EVERY DAY)
Okay, let’s look at this one a bit. How much time a day do you spend on watching tv or on social media or even standing around chit chatting? Grab your friend during those kids practices and do the walk and chat thing. A mile a day will take you 15-20 minutes (Push for 15 minutes and you will burn more calories) and it will definitely make a difference! Do this on top of any other work out you are doing. Not only will you burn calories, you will get that blood pumping and sparks connections between the brain and cells, your mood will improve, lower your stress, lower your risk of disease, your puppy will thank you and who knows, you might like it want may even start doing it more!
Okay so the weather is warm enough and if you are doing your walks, this one is easy! Getting daily sunshine and fresh air helps to increase brain function, helps reduce stress, improves your mood and overall well being. Also, 10% of Americans are deficient in Vitamin D, me being one of them. Soaking up the sun is a fun and free way to get some of that cancer-fighting vitamin.
REDUCE YOUR PORTIONS
I find that I eat more in the cold weather months and I know I am not alone! Why do we do this? Maybe it’s all the yummy comfort food that comes with the Holidays or the awesome football snacks and drinks. Regardless, get a handle on that. I mean, still, eat what you love because that has benefits in its own but, don’t overdo it. If you are unsure what a portion is supposed to look like, here is a chart we use for our kiddos. It keeps things simple. If you are still hungry, eat more veggies or drink more water!
CUT BACK ON SUGAR
Okay, I seriously doubt I will tell you to stop sugar entirely because I love sugar and have no desire to stop eating it! Now, eating Cadbury Eggs every night, probably not a good idea! We keep dessert to twice a week in this house. In general, we should be watching our sugars because we all know they are BAD (boo). Pay attention to your Starbucks drinks and half the pumps. Switch to plain yogurt and add a little fruit because plain yogurt is gross. Share a dessert with your hubby (not your kids though, that’s kinda gross too or it is with mine at least lol). Just start being conscious and make an effort. Little cuts here and there will definitely add up and you will crave it less!
GET GOOD REST
I know this is another one you hear ALL THE TIME! Sleep has SO MANY benefits and all of the above will be optimized if you are getting good rest! I know that sleep is not easy for everyone, do your best and if you need more in regards to sleep and what works for me, let me know! I will try to help! Sleep is so very important, rest up as well as you can and take that sleep advice you’ve been reading everywhere. Your body will that you for it!
INCREASE YOUR SEX LIFE
Yep, your hubby is right! The benefits of sex are huge! Sex will improve your relationship and intimacy overall. It lowers stress, improves your immune system and libido, lowers your blood pressure, burns calories and improves your sleep habits! I know that it is tough sometimes because you’re exhausted after a busy day but, keep in mind that post-sex is a great time to ask for those new shoes you’ve been wanting, just saying.
A positive attitude leads to success in all areas of your life. It’s not always easy to stay positive if you are having a day but I promise if you do, it will change your entire day and keep you on track with your goals.
We are all really busy but want to be ready for that warmer weather we keep talking about right? You still have some time and I promise if you make these simple changes they will add up and you will look and feel better! You will be running around with your kiddos, and rocking your bathing suit with confidence! Oh and the white legs….who cares, we all have white legs right now lol but, there are some great sunless tanners out there so lotion up and get on these tips! Share these with a friend or PIN for later because you will need these for next year as well!
